Location & Climate

In Salecina we are lucky to be far away from the busy Upper Engadin with its dense traffic, the airport in Samedan, and its opportunities for «hard» mass tourism. Of course, it is always possible for our guests to use the facilities there.

We in Salecina are, however, proud for our venue to be situated amongst hay fields and cross country skiing tracks, away from the traffic of the Maloja pass. Therefore we think we deserve the label «soft» tourism.

Upper Engadin/Bergell

Salecina is geographically located at the border of Upper Engadin and Bergell, but belongs politically to the Italian speaking Bergell. An idyllic walk of about 20 minutes takes you from the village of Maloja to Salecina, whose buildings are next to the little stream Orlegna, surrounded by meadows, forest and fresh mountain air.

Mountains

There are imposing mountains (between 3000 to 4000 m height) in the vicinity of Salecina. It is usually possible for experienced walkers to climb these mountains. Die Berge rund um das Haus sind imposant und hoch, einige über 3000 Meter, die Bernina über 4000 Meter. Viele von ihnen sind für geübte Wanderer gut zu besteigen.

Glaciers

The glaciers of the Upper Engadin and the palm trees of Italy are not far from each other and within easy reach by public transport. You can use Salecina as a starting point for a walk to a glacier nearby.

Rivers and lakes

Some famous rivers originate in the mountains near Salecina – one of them is the Inn, which has formed the lovely countryside of Upper Engadin with its lakes. Well known places, such as Sils-Maria, St. Moritz and Pontresina are on the banks of these lakes. There are annual events around the lakes, amongst them the ski-marathon in winter and the Engadin run in summer..

Sports and nature

There are ample opportunities to enjoy yourselves in this area. Virtually any sporting activity is possible at any time of the year, or you can just relax and go for a stroll. The most interesting ski slopes in Switzerland are in this region (Corvatsch, Diavolezza) and within easy reach from Maloja by bus. The cross country skiing tracks run past Salcecina.
Die interessantesten Skiabfahrten der Schweiz, so am Corvatsch oder an der Diavolezza, sind von Maloja aus gut und schnell mit dem Bus zu erreichen.
Langlauf-Loipen gibt es bis an unser Haus

Bergell

Here you can find small villages like Soglio, that resemble those in Italy.

Italy

From Salecina it takes about 20 minutes to reach the Swiss-Italian border, and just a bit longer to get to the pretty Italian town of Chiavenna.
